We adopted our motto from C.S. Lewis's novel,
The Last Battle (the seventh
book in the Chronicles of Narnia © 1956).
With this refrain, Lewis pointed to a deeper truth : |
Following Jesus is an adventure, we have joy
in the journey, and God's Kingdom is bigger on the inside
than it looks like from the outside.
At Balladeer, our strong desire to continually discover,
enjoy and employ each blessing the Creator gives us in art,
work, life, duty and love. |
Chapter
14: Night Falls on Narnia
“Further
in and higher up!” cried Roonwit [the Centaur] and thundered
away in a gallop to the West. And though they did not understand
him, the words somehow set them tingling all over.

They
had seen strange enough things at the Doorway. But it was
stranger than any of them to look round and find themselves
in warm daylight, the blue sky above them, flowers at their
feet and laughter in Aslan’s eyes. He turned swiftly
round, crouched lower, lashed himself with his tail and shot
away like a golden arrow.
“Come
further in! Come further up!” he shouted over his shoulder.
But who could keep up with him at that pace? p.158
Chapter
15: Further Up and Further In
“It
was the Unicorn who summed up what everyone was feeling. He
stamped his right fore-hoof on the ground and neighed and
then cried:
“I have come home at last! This is my real country!
I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all
my life, though I never knew it till now. The reason why we
loved the old Narnia is that it sometimes looked a little
like this. Bree-hee-hee! Come further up, come further in!”
He shook his mane and sprang forward into a great gallop…

Chapter
16: Farewell to Shadow-Lands
“Further
up and further in,” cried Jewel and instantly they were
off again
“Further
up and further in!” roared the Unicorn, and no one held
back. They charged strait at the foot of the hill and then
found themselves running up it almost as water from a broken
wave runs up a rock out at the point of some bay. p.176
“Welcome,
in the Lion’s name. Come further up and further in.”

“I
see,” [Lucy said to Tumnus] thoughtfully. “I see
now. This garden is like the stable. It is far bigger inside
than it was outside.”
“Of course, Daughter of Eve,” said the Fawn. “The
further up and the further in you go, the bigger everything
gets. The inside is larger than the outside.” p.180 |
"So let us know, let us press on
to know the LORD. His going forth is as certain as the dawn;
And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain
watering the earth."
H osea 6:3
I press on so that I may lay hold of that
for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren,
I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but
one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching
forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward
the goal for the prize of the upward
call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:12-14
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with
all your mind, and with all your strength
Mark 12:30
pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace,
with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22
leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us
press on to maturity, not laying again a
foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward
God...
Hebrews 6:1
Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil
be infants, but in your thinking be mature.
1 Corinthians 14:20
They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the
LORD
As the waters cover the sea.
Then in that day
The nations will resort to the root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a signal for the peoples;
And His resting place will be glorious.
Isaiah 11:9-10
And he went a little further, and fell on
his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it is possible,
let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I
will, but as thou wilt.
